Us nerds are actually very social creatures, as long as we’re in the right environment. Checkpoint Gaming Lounge is aiming to create that environment. You can sit back, chat about games – getting excited about next weeks releases over a beer, and the best part – everyone else is going to nerd out with you. Or you could get some lunch with your mates while hammering out Mileena’s fatality against your nemesis who’s beat your face in more times than you can count, BUT NOT THIS TIME!
But Checkpoint can’t do this without some help from you. This whole thing is groundbreaking for Wales. There is nothing like this in the country yet.
Personally, I’ve been waiting for this for a looooong time. Nerds of a certain age will remember GamesMaster, this pretty much set the scene for spectating gaming in the UK, even during a time when it was against the grain to have anyone over the age of 13 playing computer games. But there was a crazy amount of fun to be had just watching the crowd go nuts after an insane challenge was completed just in the nick of time! Just imagine being IN the crowd!
When Marvel released the Age Of Ultron trailer I thought we had peaked on Marvel news for a while, but NOPE.
At a conference in LA Marvel announced their whole Phase 3 lineup and it is sublime. So much so I’m not even sure where to start… I mean, Infinity Wars?!?! So much YES! We knew it was coming from the appearance of Thanos and then the Infinity Stone in Guardians but to have a date and a two part Avengers film is a nerds dream come true.
From the above you can see all the events and dates Marvel are promising us these delights. We have all the new cinematic characters plus more ongoing series to see us right through to 2019. Chadwick Boseman has been officially cast as Black Panther with a rumoured casting of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. No word yet on any casting for Captain Marvel or The Inhumans.
Oh and Civil War! Again, it’s been rumoured for a few weeks but to actually see one of Marvels (arguably) greatest events played out in live action is going to be incredible. I think most long time nerds would agree if we go back to 2005 or so when Marvel first started making moves to build their cinematic repertoire we didn’t anticipate anything on the scale of the universe they have built to date. And I’m not convinced they’re planning on slowing down even past phase 3.
With the introduction of Doctor Stange, Captain Marvel, Black Panther and the Inhumans they’re essentially starting new sub franchises. I really would not anticipate Marvel setting these new characters up for Infinity Wars just to let them fade out beyond 2019.
In fact they have almost everyone lined up here for The Illuminati. For those unfamiliar with The Illuminati it consists of a secret group of greatest minds in the Marvel Universe – Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Black Bolt and Reed Richards (but Marvel don’t currently have the cinematic rights to the Fantastic Four). One of The Illuminati’s greatest achievements was getting rid of Earths big green problem The Hulk, he was just a little too angry for their tastes. Hulk had a big adventure in the galaxy and subsequently came back and showed them how angry he could really get. So a couple of opportunities for phase 4 in there.
Infinity Wars could also be a good opportunity for Marvel to get in some fresh actors for existing roles. The whole premise of the Infinity Gauntlet is that it can control space, time and matter. Leaving them wide open to change actors for space time reasons.
And now I’ll put away my tinfoil hat and I’ll leave you with RDJ and Chris Evans facing off in preparation for their Civil War fisticuffs.
First things first. The trailer:
We’re not really sure if Ryan Reynolds is still attached to Deadpool, but this is AWESOME none the less. There was some speculation that he’d left the project but according to Cinema Blend as of March this year the director Tim Miller has Ryan Reynolds ready to go! I know there were a lot of Ryan Reynolds nay sayers out there but he absolutely nailed it here.
Shhhhhhhhh, can you hear that?
Yes! There it is! It’s the sound of another rip in the fabric of our dimension. The Kaiju’s are making another trip to the big screen and you can bet we’ll hear the roaring engines of a few Jaegers when they arrive!

We knew it was coming. And here it is.
Does this live up to your expectations? Or were you expecting something a little… higher budget?
It seems to be channeling that “Supernatural” vibe. I have a horrible feeling that this is going to be a complete wash out though. It just seems a little… off kilter.
I hope I’m wrong.
This looks like it’s going to be something special.
All those years ago when it was announced that Planet of the Apes would be getting a reboot (origin story??) I was highly skeptical. The Mark Whalberg vehicle from the early 00’s was an imitation of a classic film – and suffice to say, it did not go down well with the critics. Then along comes the reboot announcement. My first instinct was to poo poo it as just another attempt to milk some money out of the franchise. But lo and behold Rise of the Planet of the Apes turned out to be a really good film. It had plenty of heart and a gripping story about a man and his monkey (the closest we’ll get to Y: The Last Man for quite some time I’d suspect).
