Avengers: Age of Ultron first look at Scarlet Witch

New photos have been released from the next Avengers movie titled AGE OF ULTRON, based on the okay….. comic series of the same name by Brian Bendis and Bryan Hitch. There’s sneak peeks at Iron Man and Quicksilver, as well as some Hawkeye and pre-CG Ultron, but what’s gotten me excited is Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch.

Olsen as the name suggests is related to the Olsen twins, but that’s where all similarities end. She has appeared in the wonderfully scary 2011 film SILENT HOUSE, the wonderfully scary 2012 film RED LIGHTS with Cillian Murphy, Sigourney Weaver and Robert De Niro, starred opposite Dakota Fanning in VERY GOOD GIRLS, and played the part of Jack Kerouac’s first wife in KILL YOUR DARLINGS. Basically what I’m trying to say is she is a legitimate bright young actor. I am genuinely excited to see what she can bring to the next Avengers movie.

She will be playing the role of the troubled mutant Wanda, daughter of Magneto and sister to Quicksilver. Due to legal reasons, they’re not able to mention the Magneto connection as the rights are owned by 20th Century Fox, which will be so very weird, especially as they’re due to appear in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Quicksilver in Age of Ultron will be played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who funnily enough will also appear with Olsen in the new GODZILLA film opposite BREAKING BAD’s Bryan Cranston.

Johnson as Quicksilver running is already becoming a meme

They’ve gone for quite a minimalist look for Wanda this time. Somewhere between the classic costume (tights and spandex) and the X-Men Evolution cartoon series’ (über-goth bondage angst dominatrix) reimagining as some hippy-goth type. I think it fits with the realistic style that they’re going for.

Some forum posters have already criticised it for not being ‘scarlet’ enough, but others pointed out how this is mid-battle and the final colouration wouldn’t have been done until post-production so it’s a bit early to know.
