SDCC: X-Men: Days of Future Past cast photo revealed

This photo was posted to Patrick Stewart’s twitter feed. And I just about melted at the sight.

It’s been revealed that like the original Chris Claremont book that this story will centre around Kitty Pryde, who I’m delighted to see is once again being played by Ellen Page, reprising her role from the terrible X-Men: Last Stand.

Kitty Pryde has long since been one of my favourite X-Men characters, as many of the Claremont-era fans are. The whole cast made a surprise appearance at ComicCon with director Bryan Singer to talk about what he called an ‘inbetweenquel’ to his X-Men films. This massive ensemble cast included Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Peter Dinklage, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Anna Paquin and others including a rumoured James Marsden.

A big change to the original story is that it’s not Kitty going back in time, but Wolverine. As it’s a time travel caper, it’s been hinted at that Xavier and Magneto will come face-to-face with their younger/older counterparts. I for one cannot wait.

There’s a bit of hoo-ha about on forums of people saying “it’ll be rubbish!” and “it’s nothing like the original!” but then Singer’s X-Men films have already got an established history of doing their own thing and rewriting what they want, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise. With a cast like that though, this could be something very special. Also it marks a record breaking number of appearances by an actor as a comic character, as Hugh Jackman grows his facial hair to play Wolverine for a record 7th time! The previous record was Christopher Reeve playing Superman 4 times. Woah.
