Injustice Demo Played

The first thing I think we should get out of the way is that Gods Among Us is definitely not groundbreaking. Netherealm Studios (those guys that have been making Mortal Kombat for over two decades) have turned out the same thing they always turn out – a good beat ’em up. However there is nothing in this game that could be construed as a game changer.

I’m still not quite decided on whether I loathed it or really enjoyed it. This demo version gives you three characters to play and fight against – Batman, Wonder Woman and Lex Luthor (with a final fight against Doomsday who is not playable). I played through it with Bats and Diana and I have to be honest – it wasn’t much fun. Being a casual beat ’em up player it takes me a couple of hours of game play to get into the groove and flow of each character so I wasn’t expecting too much – besides which – these games really come into their own when you play against a friend. The story mode is just an aside to keep you entertained when your mates aren’t around. I suppose what I’m saying is that it will take me personally, more than a demo to get into the swing of it but once I do I think I’d really enjoy it.

The game has plenty of “cool” factor. Batman’s special ability is to throw a smoke bomb, slap his opponent around a bit, call in the bat mobile, hit you with 12,000 volts from a taser then mow you down with previously summoned bat mobile. If that isn’t cool even for someone who isn’t into comics I’ll retire to The Arctic right now. And for the true Nerd – in the full game you can play as a load of different characters, heres a list (in alphabetical order);-

  • Aquaman
  • Ares
  • Bane
  • Batman
  • Black Adam
  • Catwoman
  • Cyborg
  • Deathstroke
  • Doomsday
  • The Flash
  • Green Arrow
  • Green Lantern
  • Harley Quinn
  • Hawkgirl
  • The Joker
  • Killer Frost
  • Lex Luthor
  • Nightwing
  • Raven
  • Shazam
  • Sinestro
  • Solomon Grundy
  • Superman
  • Wonder Woman

As I mentioned first of all though, this game isn’t going to be breaking any ground on the beat ’em up scene. It really is WYSIWYG. Personally I won’t be paying full price for it. I’ll happily pick it up when it goes on sale but it’s not worth a purchase on release day. I had high expectations for this… perhaps too high?

Have you played the demo yet? If so what did you think?

  1. Great write up. I had a play around and sort of felt the same. It’s absolutely just Mortal Kombat with a few extra aesthetic bells and whistles. But it appears to be jam packed with features which was what made the recent Mortal Kombat so replayable. Also, I’m an absolute sucker for anything that has alternate costume. I don’t know what it is, but offer me a slightly greyer Solomon Grundy and you have my money.

    • I’m exactly the same with the costumes but I couldn’t begin to explain why! Weird eh?
One thing I forgot to mention in the review though was the voice acting, what I saw in the demo was horrible. Particularly Batman. HATED it. They make it look so shiny then they go and put that terrible voice to it.
